John Bresnahan at Politico is reporting new findings that DEA agents in Columbia fighting the US war on marijuana had repeated sex parties with prostitutes supplied by the Columbian drug cartels, who not only supplied the sex workers but also guarded the agents weapons during the parties. The conclusions are part of Justice Department Inspector General’s report released today.
While the report is news, high times for DEA agents in Columbia is not. Every agent I’ve ever spoken with has raved about his Columbian assignment. Ditto the US Secret Service, which also reportedly frequented sex workers during parties in Columbia. Combine unlimited budgets, little transparency, and an ill-defined mission, US drug programs in central and south America have become an embarrassment.
