The D.C. Council Committee on Business, Consumer and Regulatory Affairs approved portions of a new Bill 20-466, which aims to tax and regulate marijuana like alcohol. D.C. voters overwhelming approved Initiative 71 on November’s ballot, which calls for legalization of marijuana in the District.
Under the new legislation, the D.C. Alcoholic Beverage Regulation Administration (“ABRA”) would create regulations relating to cannabis sales. Other portions of the Bill are before the Committee on Finance, and won’t be addressed under after the New Year break. The Bill is being sponsored by pro-marijuana reform Councilmember David Grosso.
