Oregon supporters of marijuana legalization got a boost today from a key state senator, when Ways and Means Chairman Rep. Peter Buckley announced his support of Measure 80, which would regulate marijuana like alcohol in Oregon.
As Ways and Means Chairman, Buckley understands numbers. The measure would legalize, regulate and tax marijuana consumed by adults. Estimates are that the change in law would save 60 million dollars in law enforcement costs and bring in 140 million in new taxes.
What about Maryland, DC and Virginia? They would rather raise money the old-fashioned way – higher taxes and fewer services.
