The United States Attorney’s office for the District of Columbia has expanded the use of two programs for defendants charged with Marijuana offenses. They are Deferred Prosecution Agreements (DPA’s) and Deferred Sentencing Agreements (DSA’s).

DPA’s are particularly appealing because they do not involve an admission of guilt, or indeed a statement of any kind by the client. 32 hours of community service is required in order to have the charge dismissed. These options are alternatives to the first time expungement provisions found in D.C. Code 901.04(e).
